Getting started

What is Profondeur?

A companion for reading the Bible. You read the text, look up a word or a passage, and ask your questions in five study modes. Profondeur is available in French, English and Spanish.

What are Reading and the five modes for?

Each entry on the home screen answers a need.

  • Reading: Read a book, chapter after chapter
  • Dictionary: Understand a word and its original sense
  • Concordance: Find the passages where a word recurs
  • Study: A verse, a passage, a book, a theme
  • Meditation: Dwell at length on a single verse
  • Quiz: Test yourself on a passage you have read
Does Profondeur belong to a church?

No. Profondeur does not belong to any Christian tradition and is meant for everyone. When a passage is read in several ways, it presents them with their arguments, without settling the matter.

The text and the AI

Where do the verses shown come from?

Always from the version you are reading, never from the AI. Profondeur explains and comments; the Bible text itself is taken as it stands from the version chosen at the top of the screen.

Can the AI be wrong?

Yes. The answers are written by an artificial intelligence: it is a study tool, not an authority. The Bible text is shown with every explanation, so that you can check.

Which versions can I read?

11 versions, all in the public domain, in French, English and Spanish. You can change at any time with the button that bears the version’s name, at the top of the screen.

What are keywords?

In several versions, you can tap a word to see its entry: the Hebrew or Greek word it translates, its meaning and its other uses. Keywords are turned on in Settings, which lists the versions concerned.

Why does a verse number change from one version to another?

Versions do not all divide chapters and verses in the same place, especially in the Psalms. Profondeur takes this into account: a reference takes you to the same passage, whichever version you are reading.

Using Profondeur

How do I save a verse or write a note?

In Reading, tap a verse number: a bar lets you copy it, share it, add it to your verses or write a note. You will find them in the menu, under “My verses” and “My notes”.

How do I find my conversations again?

With an account, your conversations are kept in your history: you will find them in the menu, under “My conversations”, on all your devices. Without an account, they are cleared when you close the tab. History can be turned off and cleared in “My account”.

Can I listen to a passage?

Yes. The listen button reads a verse or a chapter aloud, using the voices on your device. You can set the voice and the speed while listening.

Can I dictate my question?

Yes. The microphone in the question bar transcribes what you say; you read the text over, then send it yourself. You can also dictate a note.

How do I make the text larger or change the theme?

In the menu, Settings lets you choose the theme, the size of the text you read and the reading font. These choices stay on your device.

Can I install Profondeur on my phone?

Yes. In your browser’s menu, choose “Add to Home screen” or “Install”: Profondeur then opens like an app. An Internet connection is still needed.

Limits, account and paid access

Why is there a limit on exchanges?

Every answer has a cost. An exchange is one question and its answer: you have 5 a day without an account, and 30 with a free account. An account also has a monthly budget, shown in “My account”. Reading the Bible, looking up a word and comparing versions remain unlimited.

What is an account for? Is it free?

The account is free. It gives you more exchanges a day, and it keeps your verses, your notes and your conversations so that you find them on all your devices.

What does paid access give?

Paid access, for one month or one year, replaces the daily limit with a larger monthly budget. It is paid once: nothing renews by itself. Prices are shown on the “Unlock access” page.

Can I get a refund?

Yes, within 14 days of the payment: you receive the price paid, less the part already used. The request is made by email, from your account’s address; the details are in the terms of use.

My data

What do you keep about me?

Without an account, Profondeur keeps neither your questions nor its answers. With an account, it keeps your email address and what you choose to keep: your verses, your notes and your conversations. No advertising, no audience measurement, no resale. The details are in the privacy policy.

Who reads my questions?

No one at Profondeur. To answer them, your questions are sent to OpenAI, with nothing that says who you are; OpenAI does not use them to train its AI and keeps them for 30 days at most.

How do I download or delete my data?

In “My account”: “Download everything” gives you your verses, your notes and your conversations in a single file, and “Delete my account” erases everything, for good.

How can I write to you?

At contact@profondeur.chat, for a question, a mistake in an answer or a payment problem.
