In short
- Without an account, Profondeur keeps neither your questions nor its answers. With an account, your conversations are kept in your history so that you can find them again; you can turn history off or clear it at any time, in “My account”.
- To answer, your questions go through OpenAI, which does not use them to train its models and keeps them for 30 days at most.
- If you dictate a question or a note, your voice is sent to OpenAI to be transcribed; Profondeur does not keep it.
- Without an account, we ask you for nothing. With an account, we keep your email address, an unreadable fingerprint of your password, your daily and monthly counters, and the verses and notes you choose to keep.
- For a payment, the information requested goes to Chariow, which collects it: we keep neither your name, nor your phone number, nor your payment details.
- No advertising, no audience measurement, no resale.
- No newsletter without your consent: two optional boxes, unchecked by default, that you can uncheck at any time.
- You can delete your account yourself, at any time.
Who is responsible
Profondeur is published by Zhilaquest, a SARL with a share capital of 1 000 000 F CFA, whose registered office is at Abidjan – Cocody, 28 BP 1733 Abidjan 28, Côte d’Ivoire, registered with the Trade and Personal Property Credit Register (RCCM) under number CI-ABJ-2020-B-13293. Khayhiel Éditions is another trade name of Zhilaquest. In this policy, “we” means Zhilaquest: it decides what is done with your data (the law calls it the “controller”).
For any question about your data: contact@profondeur.chat.
What stays on your device
Profondeur remembers your choices in your browser, on your device: theme, text size and font, how the app addresses you (informal or formal, in French and Spanish), language, version you read, last chapter read, saved verses and notes when you have no account, the author name you give to your exported notes, listening voice and speed, and your question counter when you have no account. This information is not sent to us, except the language, the form of address and the last chapter read, which the site reads to show the right page as soon as it opens. If you turn off your conversation history, your browser remembers that too, and the site reads it in the same way.
These are cookies and local storage that the service needs or that remember your choices. They do not follow you from one site to another. That is why Profondeur does not ask you to accept cookies.
To erase them, clear the site’s data in your browser settings.
What we keep
Without an account
Nothing beyond what every website receives: your network address (IP address). We use it to limit the number of requests per minute and per day, and the number of free exchanges per day when you do not have an account, to prevent abuse and the circumvention of limits. If several people share the same address (a family, a school, a mobile network), they also share these limits. We do not keep it as is: only a fingerprint, computed with a secret key, from which the address cannot be recovered. This fingerprint is erased one to two days after your last request. Sign-in, sign-up and password-reset attempts are slowed down in the same way, under a fingerprint of the same kind.
Our host also keeps technical logs of visits, kept for one day at most.
With an account
| Data | Why |
|---|---|
| Email address | To identify you, check that it is yours, and let you recover access |
| Password fingerprint | To check your password without knowing it: we cannot read it |
| Account creation date | To manage the account |
| Account role (reader or administrator) and, if the account has been suspended, the suspension and its reason | To keep the administration area for those in charge of it; to apply a suspension provided for by the terms of use |
| If the account was created for you by our team: a “password to choose” marker, erased as soon as you choose one | To send you the email that lets you choose your password |
| Open sessions (expiry date, network address and browser type) | To keep you signed in, and spot unusual access |
| Today’s question counter and time zone | To apply the daily limit and reset it at your midnight; to date emails in your time |
| This month’s counter (number of exchanges and volume of text processed, never their content) | To apply the monthly budget and show you where you stand |
| Language and form of address | To write to you the way you chose when you signed up |
| Your optional email choices (yes or no for each, and the date of your last choice) | To write to you only if you asked, and to be able to show when you agreed |
| Verses you save (the reference, the version you were reading, the date and the colour you give them) | To show them to you in “My verses”, on all your devices |
| Notes you write (title, text, verses cited, dates) | To show them to you in “My notes”, on all your devices |
| Your conversations (your questions, the answers, the mode, the title, the dates, and whether you pinned it) | To show them to you in “My conversations”, on all your devices, and let you resume them |
| Your projects (the name of each folder and the conversations filed in it) | To let you organise your conversations |
| Your history setting (on or off) | To stop saving your conversations when you have turned it off |
| The warning of an upcoming erasure (the date announced, the last email sent about it, and whether you have come back to see your conversations since) | To warn you before conversations are erased, and not send you needless reminders |
| Paid access: the duration bought (one month or one year), its end date and the day of the payment that opened it | To give you the access you paid for, and renew your budget on the right date |
| A record of each purchase (the sale reference at Chariow, the duration bought, the date; no amount, no name, no phone number) | Not to count the same purchase twice, and to handle a refund |
In Profondeur’s administration area, the people in charge of it can see, for each account: the email address, the creation date, whether the address is confirmed, the role and any suspension, the number of connected devices, the language, the form of address, the time zone, the email choices, today’s and this month’s counters, the paid access and the purchases. Of your saved verses and your notes, they see only the number, never the content. They can neither read your password nor sign in as you. They can extend or withdraw paid access, suspend an account in the cases provided for by the terms of use, sign it out of its devices or delete it. This area only opens with a code received by email, in addition to the password. Of your conversations too, they see only the number: never a title, never any content, and nothing of your projects.
Your questions and the answers
Without an account, Profondeur does not keep your conversations. Your browser keeps them in the open tab, so you can find them again when switching modes, and erases them when you close the tab.
With an account, your conversations are saved in your history: your questions, the answers and the title of each conversation. You find them in “My conversations”, on all your devices, and you can resume them. You can file them in projects, folders that you name. History is on by default. You can turn it off at any time in “My account”: your next conversations are then no longer saved, and those already saved stay until you erase them. You can also delete a conversation, or clear your whole history: we then erase them as soon as possible, most often at once, and their backup copies disappear within the following fifteen days.
A conversation is kept for 12 months after its last message, then erased at the next monthly erasure. For as long as a one-year paid access lasts, it is kept with no time limit; when that access ends, the 12-month rule applies again. A conversation that you pin, or that you file in a project, is not erased, within the limits shown by the application.
You are warned fifteen days before any erasure: each conversation concerned shows its erasure date in “My conversations”, and you receive an email, repeated seven days, three days and one day before for as long as you have not come back to see your conversations. This email gives their number and the date, never their title or their content.
Your conversations can say a lot about your beliefs. We do not read them and do not analyse them. They are only used to be shown to you, and to continue a conversation when you resume it: its beginning is then sent to OpenAI again, as for any question.
To produce an answer, your question and the beginning of the conversation are sent to OpenAI, together with the relevant Bible passages. Nothing allows OpenAI to know who you are: neither your name, nor your email address, nor your account is sent to it. OpenAI does not use these exchanges to train its models; it keeps them for 30 days at most to detect abuse, unless required by law.
You can dictate your question, or a note. The recording of your voice is then sent to OpenAI, which turns it into text; this text is written in the question bar, where you read it over before sending it, or at the end of your note. Profondeur does not keep the recording. It keeps the text only if it is part of a note, like the rest of that note. OpenAI does not use it to train its models and keeps it for 30 days at most, unless the law requires otherwise. Your browser asks you for access to the microphone the first time; you can withdraw it at any time in its settings. To prevent dictations in series, we count those of the day, under a fingerprint that cannot be traced back to your account or your network address; it is erased one to two days later.
Profondeur never asks about your beliefs and infers nothing from your questions: they are used to answer you and, if you have an account, to be shown to you again in your history, and for nothing else. They can still say a lot about you. Avoid writing anything in them that could identify you, or anyone else.
Your verses and your notes
Without an account, the verses you save and the notes you write stay in your browser: we do not receive them.
With an account, they are stored on your account, so that you find them on all your devices. Those already in your browser are added to it when you sign in. Your browser keeps a copy, to show them without waiting; it is erased from the device when you sign out.
What you save and what you write can say a lot about your beliefs. We do not read them, do not analyse them and do not pass them on to anyone: not to OpenAI, nor to any provider other than the one hosting the database. They are only used to be shown to you. You can delete a verse or a note at any time: we then erase them as soon as possible, most often at once, and their backup copies disappear within the following fifteen days.
Payment
To open a payment, you give your first name, your last name, your country and your phone number: Chariow, the platform that collects the payment, requires them. They are sent to it with your account’s email address. Profondeur does not keep them, and never sees your bank or mobile money details.
Chariow sends you the receipt and handles this information under its own privacy policy. It only confirms to us that the payment went through, with the sale reference.
To prevent payments being opened in series, we count the payments an account opens during the day, under a fingerprint that cannot be traced back to the account; it is erased one to two days later.
Listening aloud
Listening uses your device’s voices. Depending on the browser, some voices send the text being read to the browser maker’s service (Google, Apple, Microsoft) to pronounce it. Profondeur has no access to it.
Why we are allowed to do this
The law calls these reasons “legal bases”.
- Running your account: the performance of the contract between us, that is, the terms of use.
- Collecting a payment and opening paid access: the same contract, when you buy access.
- Sending you Profondeur news or books and publications from Khayhiel Éditions: your consent, given by checking the matching box, which you can withdraw at any time in “My account” or through the link at the bottom of each of these emails.
- Sending your questions to OpenAI: this is the service you ask for when you ask a question, and it cannot be provided any other way. OpenAI acts on our behalf, on our instructions. You end it by no longer asking questions.
- Transcribing a dictated question or note: this is the service you ask for when you tap the microphone. You end it by typing your questions and your notes.
- Keeping your verses and notes on your account: this is the service you ask for when you save a verse or write a note while signed in. You end it by deleting them.
- Keeping your conversations in your history: this is a service the account provides, described in the terms of use. You end it at any time by turning history off, in “My account”, and by clearing it.
- Limiting requests per network address and protecting accounts: our legitimate interest in preventing abuse.
Who else processes your data
| Provider | Role | Location |
|---|---|---|
| Vercel Inc. | Hosting the site | Germany (Frankfurt), and the Vercel network access point closest to the reader; US company, bound by the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses |
| OpenAI | Producing answers and transcribing dictated questions and notes | United States |
| Neon | Storing accounts, saved verses, notes and conversations | Germany (Frankfurt); US company, a participant in the EU–US Data Privacy Framework |
| Brevo | Sending account emails and, if you asked for them, optional emails | European Union (France, Germany, Belgium); French company |
| Chariow (Axa Zara LLC) | Collecting payments | US company; servers in Paris, according to its privacy policy |
Each acts only on our instructions, as a processor, except Chariow, which collects payments under its own responsibility. When your data leaves the European Union, the transfer is covered by the safeguards provided by the GDPR (the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses or the EU–US Data Privacy Framework).
We do not sell, rent or give your data to anyone. Profondeur shows no advertising and does not measure its audience. We only keep, day by day, the total of exchanges and dictations served and their estimated cost: numbers, with nothing that relates to a person.

The emails you receive
Those your account needs, in every case: confirming your address, forgotten password, password or address changed, account created for you by our team, warning before an inactive account is deleted, changes to this policy. In addition, when conversations in your history are about to be erased, the email that warns you.
And, only if you checked the matching box, when signing up or in “My account”:
- Profondeur news;
- books and publications from Khayhiel Éditions.
The two boxes are independent and unchecked by default. You can uncheck them at any time in “My account”, or unsubscribe through the link at the bottom of each of these emails.
The links in our emails go through a redirect address run by Brevo, our email provider (r.mail.profondeur.chat). It is set up so that neither opening an email nor clicking a link is tied to you.
Your rights
At any time, you can access your data, correct it, receive it in a readable format, have it erased, restrict or object to its use, and withdraw your consent. These rights come from Côte d’Ivoire’s Law No. 2013-450 of 19 June 2013 on the protection of personal data and, if you live in the European Union, from the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
- Deleting your account: from your account page, without writing to us.
- Downloading your verses, your notes and your conversations: from your account page, in a single file, without writing to us.
- Turning off your conversation history, or clearing it: from your account page, without writing to us.
- Everything else: write to contact@profondeur.chat. We reply within one month.
Profondeur builds no profile of you and makes no automated decision about you, other than applying the usage limits.
If you believe your rights are not respected, you can contact the Telecommunications/ICT Regulatory Authority of Côte d’Ivoire (ARTCI), which oversees us, or the data protection authority of your country; in France, the CNIL (cnil.fr).
Security
The site is only reachable over an encrypted connection. Your password is never stored: only its fingerprint is, computed by a method designed to resist cracking. Sign-in attempts are slowed down after several failures. The keys that give access to our providers stay on the server, never in your browser.
Age
Reading the Bible, the verse of the day and search are open to everyone, with no age requirement: they collect nothing.
To ask questions and to create an account, you must be 16. If you are younger, first ask a parent for permission.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date at the top of the page changes too. If the change concerns what we keep, who sees it or the company that publishes Profondeur, account holders are told by email one month before it applies, and can delete their account in the meantime. As an exception, when the change comes with an improvement to the service (a new feature, better protection of your data), it may apply without waiting for this period: you are then told by email at the latest on the day it applies, and you can still delete your account.
If Profondeur is taken over by another company led by the same person, as the terms of use provide, that company may only use your data under the terms of this policy. Your consent to optional emails is passed on to it only after this information email, and you can withdraw it at any time.
Language
This policy exists in French, English and Spanish. If they differ, the French version prevails.
